Now, Melissa Dawn Event Designs is known for being a top wedding planner in Calgary, Banff, and destinations across Canada and the United States.
After returning to work following maternity leave, I found myself in an unfamiliar work environment where I felt undervalued despite years of unwavering dedication. That tension was compounded by the stress of leaving my baby in daycare for so many hours each day.
Seeking fulfillment beyond my 9-to-5, I began planning small parties on the side. The joy these experiences brought me sparked the idea of starting my own event business — where I could set my own schedule, tackle new challenges, and find the flexibility I desired as a new mom.
So I took the leap, discovering a profound love for design, logistics, and most of all, guest experience. With a natural penchant for organization (I’m a bit of a list freak!) transitioning to this new career felt like a seamless fit.

From dreaming about being a clown when she was younger to obtaining her degree in Cultural Anthropology and minor in Philosophy to getting into culinary arts, teaching, fundraising, and development coordination, Emily has had quite a journey before finding her path with Melissa Dawn Event Designs!
Hailing from a small town near Montreal, Quebec, Emily's diverse background brings a unique perspective, creativity, optimism, and problem-solving skills to weddings.
On her days off, you'll find Emily perfecting her moves at dance class, enjoying brunch with friends, or playing video games with her fiancé. As she plans her own wedding, she's excited to create her wedding dress from her mother-in-law's silk gown!

Originally from Northern B.C. and now calling the Calgary Area home, Kathlyn brings her Bachelor of Arts education and passion for organization and communication to her role at Melissa Dawn Events.
Drawn to the wedding industry by a desire to support Melissa's business, Kathlyn finds fulfillment in being a part of a business that helps couples have the best day of their lives.
When she's not helping put together unforgettable moments for couples, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her twin girls and husband, indulging in her love for books and true crime podcasts, and drinking a glass of wine or coconut tequila — especially if it’s paired with a blackberry pie (hold the whipped cream) or sandwich.
