2021 Wedding Design Trends

Can you believe we’re finally rolling into 2021? One thing we learned from the past year is that love is truly not cancelled. Couples are still getting engaged, eloping and hosting small scale weddings. Despite all of the hardships they’ve gone through, we’re seeing some really amazing things come into wedding styling and design this year. Here are some of the top trends we’re seeing for 2021.

Earth Tones, Textures and Minimalism Created Magic at One of LA’s Newest Wedding Spaces.jpeg

The Decor

With the majority of weddings drastically sizing down in the guest list, it has opened the doors to creating a more personalized styled wedding. Think small scale pieces like ceramic dishes, gorgeous chairs that make a statement and set the tone. Don’t forget to include comfort. Guests will be sitting longer as mingling around is a no-no, so consider adding cushier chairs or pillows for your guests comfort.

Think about your home or what your dream home looks like. What kind of vases, artwork and dishes do you have? These are the items that can adorn your reception tables and help to infuse your personality into your wedding.

The Atmosphere

Outdoor weddings are definitely having their moment and we don’t see anything changing heading into 2021. With outdoor weddings allowing a slightly higher guest list, couples are opting for outdoor venues and tented options. To enhance the guest experience, we also see couples having acoustic performances to play before and after dinner. Consider having coffee and lattes served after dinner, along with individual cakes or mini desserts, to emulate the outdoor bistro experience. Include garden lights or vintage pendants to create an ambient atmosphere your guests will love.

The Florals

One benefit our couples are noticing is the money they’re saving with a limited guest count. They are able to put some of this savings towards more voluminous floral centerpieces that really make a statement. Not to mention gorgeous ceremony backdrops that can double as a photo op after the vows

Lush greenery is also having its moment this year. Think cascading foliage arrangements on the tables and fairytale greenery hanging above your cake display. Want to keep things minimal? Stick to succulents and mini cactus pots for your centerpieces.

The Colours

A past favourite, especially for all of our boho brides, are the clay tones, neutrals, terra cotta and even mauve. This palette collection is still seeing some love in 2021. Pair these neutral tones with bold black elements in your dinnerware, candles or flatware for a chic contrast.

With one of the Pantone colours of the year being Illuminating, a sunny yellow, we will start to see bolder, brighter colours incorporated into wedding design. This will be seen everywhere from linens, to custom napkin patterns and floral arrangements. These colours evoke a sense of joy and happiness, which is something we could all use a little more of these days. In contrast, the other Pantone colour of year, Ultimate Gray, provides a stable and comforting base. Together these colours represent hope and resiliency.

The Fashion

Let your true personality shine with that Vogue-worthy dress or casual-cute jumpsuit. Don’t be afraid to try on a dress with sleeves or unexpected colour. This year will see bolder colours in men’s jackets, even changing from ceremony to reception. Thin black ties paired with pocket squares will replace boutonnieres for a classic, clean look.

Pintimate Perfection

Despite the global pandemic essentially forcing this trend, couples are truly embracing the micro weddings, inviting only immediate family members or close loved ones to celebrate their special day.

Pintimate (personalized and intimate) weddings have couples sizing down on everything from guest lists to food dishes, and in turn, enhancing the experience for their guests. Skip the 4-course meal and consider offering mini plated appetizer arrangements, grazing boards for two and mini cakes for your guests to enjoy. Personalize it further by offering signature drinks from an artisan drink bar. We love The Prosecco Cart!

Overall, couples are going back to the roots of a wedding and focusing on their love story. With many choosing to “Wed now, party later”, the message is clear that love is all that matters at the end of the day. However you choose to unite as partners for life, make it special to you.

Which one of these trends are you loving this year?
